The time had come for me to start the mission.  The mission I had been

procrastinating about for a number of weeks. I needed to move with as much vigour as possible.

I dressed in my uniform of an old pair of jeans, a t/shirt with the words “MUM SUPERSTAR” on the front and a bandana tied around my head keeping my hair from becoming, collateral damage, in this war that I had finally decided to engage in.

My weapons of choice were rubber gloves, a dustpan and brush and a garbage bag, large, just in case the war was prolonged and larger than I expected.

I was now ready to engage in battle.  Down I went on my hands and knees and crawled slowly through the opening into the Space Between.  The Space Between the lounge chair and the wall, where all missing items and rubbish tend to fall.

At the entrance I moved forward and my face was tickled by a few cobwebs. My body shivered in reaction and I quickly swept them away with the dustpan brush.

On I went to attack a squad of mouldy pizza crusts guarding an empty, grease stained pizza box.  Into the rubbish bag they go, the first casualties of the fight.

I received a wound as my knee came down on a plastic toy soldier out on reconnaissance from the other toy soldiers who were guarding a Lego fort in the distance.  So filled with retribution, I cleaned them up in one fell swoop with the dustpan and brush and into the bag they went.

The Barbie dolls, that were laughing nearby, had no chance against me.

Then I looked up to see dust fairies dancing in a shard of sunlight.  They moved so gracefully, I was lulled into a sense of peace.

The peace was shattered as our fat but lethal cat “Kaos” jumped on my back and with a high pitched scream, I was out from the Space Between as if the hounds from hell were after me.  “Kaos” the cat, disappeared into the kitchen and I was left lying on the lounge room floor, gasping for breath, thinking I was lucky to have escaped from the Space Between.

Until the next time…
