The Committee
It was on this day in October quite some years ago,
The Committee called a meeting for an answer they had to know
Why the membership was dwindling for their local croquet club
And the members preferring to cross the road and frequent the local pub.
Old Mrs Grumblebum presided in the president’s chair,
Announcing the local’s competition just was not all that fair,
On her right old Ernie sat and he owned the local shop
He seconded her good motion as he would not stand their cop.
On her left fat Albert sat in his brightly couloured shirt,
In croquet he had no interest preferring to chase some skirt.
He suggested they form a committee to try and solve this mess
The Committee would take the local on, along with all the stress.
Mrs Grumblebum was the first to second that good motion,
Because her favourite pastime was to cause a big commotion,
She moved they escalate the matter and as a last resort
She suggested that the matter should be dealt with in the local court.
All agreed and a fighting committee was formed right then and there,
And Mrs Grumblebum said that she should be the chair.
She wanted to lead The Committee and its moral right
She would not take this matter lying down and was the one to fight.
A venue for this meeting was what they needed next,
It had to be considered and this question was rather vexed,
The meeting was quite urgent to protect their croquet club,
And the venue The Committee selected was the local pub.
And why not indeed LOL.
Well said Peter. Very humorous
The immediate decision to go to court and then to the pub sounds very much like Leesburg VA. One of my girlfriends is a judge there so I had to laugh. We’re not all that different.
