SUMMER

Summer will soon be here

Summer can be  harsh, rough, burning and sticky

With steamy days and nights

Summer storms lash the coast with the sharp crack of lightning

Bush fires destroy homes and blacken the earth

But summer can bring  contentment

The uncannily beautiful zinnias are coarse and upright

Mangoes,Paw Paws and Pineapples are succulent to taste

Sunflowers standing tall emit a sunny glow as they face the sun and at the end of the day drop their heads in rest

Families playing cricket on the beach or swimmers bathing in the warm cerulean sea conscious of the red and yellow flags that provide invisible safety barriers for the happy throng

Queensland summer is awash with severity and contentment
